Foreign Adoption
Thousands of children from countries all over the world are in need of a loving home every year. Thankfully, many kindhearted, aspiring parents are willing to go through the long and strenuous foreign adoption process so that their future child can have more opportunities than they could have ever dreamed about. Adoption is never a simple process, as an applicant must go through several government entities and fill out countless legal documents. Things get even more complicated for foreign adoptions, as the adoption must be approved by both the country of the parent and the child. At BB Law Group PLLC, our The Woodlands foreign adoption lawyers understand firsthand the joys of becoming a parent and we strive to help those who wish to adopt a child achieve their dreams.
Hague Convention vs Non-Hague Convention Adoption Process
For international adoption, there are two different routes that an applicant can choose to go through; the Hague or Non-Hague process. Established in 1993, the Hague Convention created international guidelines for adopting children that are designed to protect the child’s well-being. Adopting a child from one of the over 90 Hague Convention countries mandates a parent to fulfill more stringent requirements as well as acquire ten hours of parental education.
With Non-Hague Convention countries, the application process is similar in many ways, but requires less eligibility prerequisites for parents. However, with the Non-Hague Convention Adoption Process, a child is not guaranteed permanent residency as the visa application is submitted after the foreign adoption is completed.
